I think I’ve mentioned that I’m secretly a science nerd. Not in the sense that I spend hours standing over beakers and chemical solutions and not in the sense of journeying through the Amazon jungle to identify new species. No, I’m more of the armchair science girl, watching the play-by-plays and predicting what’s going to happen next. The world we live in is so cool!
Here’s a few fun bits I’ve been watching lately.
Good news for scifi writers! As I’ve always secretly suspected, there are habitable planets out there and the Moon has plenty of water. This after news that Mars has water too. Looks like my plans for colonizing space are a lot more realistic than previously thought.
More cool gadgets! In addition to robots with emotion, now there’s a mannekin that will automatically adjust to your measurements and a set of virtual reality contact lenses to make your computer interface wet dreams a fantastic reality. Solar power windows. Or, a new interface to redefine how we think about smartphones. All great ideas, but I’m holding out for the computer wall from Minority Report before I get too excited.
Cool creatures! Like bacteria that live in boiling water at the bottom of the ocean. Berries that could bring us solar power. Or awesome new sea creatures. There’s even rumors of bacteria who communicate but that’s a little freaky. Speaking of,
Disturbing developments. Turns out birth control alters brain structure in unknown ways, and power really does corrupt – or at least makes you more likely to dehumanize others. Ah, the smell of dystopia.
Isn’t our world awesome? Can’t wait to see what happens next.
