As I wrote about earlier in the week, I found out I am accepted to both the Odyssey and KU’s Novel Writing workshops. Woot!
Sadly, they happen in the same timeframe, so I had to choose. After talking to Kij Johnson and several students she recommended, as well as doing some research on Odyssey, I finally (reluctantly) settled on Odyssey. Kij seems amazing and she’ll definitely be hearing from me next year, but I think I need a workshop to kick my butt this year. The length, the intensity, and the prestige of Odyssey I think are a better first step. So, with a fluttering stomach, I sent an email to Kij letting her know. It was sad. ๐
Then, the next step was to plan out the rest of the year. My time and my budget are going to need to be well-planned – as well as my workload. The novel-in-six-months class I signed up for two weeks ago? Maybe not so possible anymore (I’ve emailed the professor for her opinion). That vacation the hubbie and I were planning? Carefully timed, to say the least. And my stress level? Well, it will certainly need to be managed!
But I’m also excited and cautiously optimistic that this will be that strong kick in the pants I’ve needed to finally take me to the next level in my writing. Stay tuned!
